The link between delaying gratification and our ability to influence people.
Every interaction with people around us which is motivated by our desire to influence their thinking and behavior includes
many "choice points" in which we must choose between two paths forward:
(a) Instant Gratification or (b) Lasting Impact. Sadly, in 99% of the cases, we cannot have both.
Even sadder still: most of us go for the instant gratification most of the time, thus violating the "Persuasion Equation" -
A dynamic that must be maintained if we wish to increase our ability to get the other person to accept our points of view and even enjoy doing so.
The three most frequent reasons for making this mistake are called "Gratification Traps". The more passionate we are about the topic and the more important the other person is to us - the more powerful these "Gratification Traps" are.
In this talk, I will present the "Persuasion Equation" as well as discuss the importance of our ability to delay gratification while avoiding each of the "Gratification Traps".
