Sales Development Representative (SDR)

The sales development role is associated with the initial stage of the sales process in startups and tech companies. Sales development representatives detect, map, and qualify potential customers. In this process, representatives are the first to contact prospects or respond to incoming inquiries to determine if such a customer is a prospect. The purpose of screening is to direct the company’s resources exclusively to relevant customers. This is an entry position into the tech field, which allows to develop further in many directions related to the business side of this industry.

Business Development Representative (BDR)

The role of business development representatives is to detect and sort leads early upon their entry into the pipeline. The representatives’ role is defined broadly, depending on the organization’s size and goals. Business development includes a wide range of ideas, activities and initiatives that the organization has to implement to streamline business processes and increase profitability. Business development includes various objectives, such as sales growth, business expansion, and establishment of strategic partnerships. Successful business development affects every department in a company. The role of business development managers is necessary and critical for the organization, since business development is a multidisciplinary set of activities that facilitates the company’s growth, and it also serves as an excellent junior position that allows entering the tech industry.

Sales development representatives are the sales department gatekeepers. They get the leads and have to decide if the customer is relevant and if the deal is worthwhile for the company.
